Strong finishes for boys and girls in Cape Ann League indoor track

The Ipswich boys finished in fourth place with a total of 57 points at the Cape Ann League Indoor Championship, which took place on February 7.

Colin Hansen won the 300 meters and broke the meet record, improving on his school record with a time of 35.38. He also finished third in the 55-meter dash with a career best time of 6.76, ranking him fourth overall in the school’s history in that event.

Keith Townsend won the high jump with a distance of six feet and three inches, making his jump the second best in school history. He came in second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15.

Peter Bauman placed second in the shot put with a career-best throw of 44 feet, ranking him sixth all time in school history.\

The boys’ 4 x 400 relay team of Townsend, Hansen, Tyler Rafferty, and Brandon Monahan placed second overall with a season-best time of 3:35.18.

Rafferty placed fifth in the 1,000 meters with a career best of 2:43.87.

Elijah Bergner was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a career best time of 8.42, and Marty Noone placed fifth in the high jump at five feet and eight inches and seventh in the 55-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 8.99.

The boys’ team was also the recipient of the Cape Ann League Sportsmanship award for the fifth year in a row. They will compete at the MIAA Division 5 meet on Thursday.

The girls’ team also did really well, finishing fifth overall with 35 points. They were the highest-finishing Baker division (small school) team at the meet.

School record-holder Olivia Novello is the Cape Ann League Champion in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99.

Lucy Winthrop placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:14.69, which places her fourth overall in school history.

Chloe Pszenny took third in the 300 meters with a career best of 43.09, placing her eighth in school history.

The 4 x 400 relay team of Pszenny, Lily Harper, Amelia Mooradd, and Soren Shearer took third with a time of 4:19.90.

Shearer placed fourth in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:17.59, and the girls 4 x 200 team of Pszenny, Lucy Harmon, Novello, and Jenny White took sixth overall with a time of 1:56.16.

The 4 x 800 team of Collette Love, Dana Falardeau, Brooke Soininen, and Winthrop placed seventh at 11:36.91.

Harper was eighth in the 300 meters with a career-best time of 44.77.

Pzsenny was named Cape Ann League Baker Division Athlete of the year, having gone the entire season undefeated in the 55-meter dash and the 300 meters.

As with the boys, the girls will be participating in the MIAA Division 5 meet next Thursday.
