IPSWICH — No injuries have been reported after a large section of tree fell and landed on the roof of an Ipswich home.

The incident happened on Thursday night around 7:30 p.m. at number 4 Abell Avenue.

“It sounded like a freight train hit the house,” said owner Bill Yanakakis as he waited outside. He said he went upstairs to check the roof, and everything appeared fine.

When he called 911, Yanakakis said the dispatcher advised the occupants to wait outside. The dispatcher radioed at the time that the tree appeared to have hit wires and pulled them into the house.

In addition to police and the fire departments, the Electric Light and Forestry departments arrived.

After the ELD checked out the wires and gave the all-clear, DPW foreman Deke Clapp used a bucket truck to start clearing the limbs from the roof of the two-story building.

Noting that Clapp is a fellow Mason, Yanakakis said. “He’s a good guy.”

“It was an unbelieveable response from the town,” he added.
