IPSWICH — A large tree that fell on power lines and then onto Linebrook Road has closed the town’s schools for the day.
The tree fell in the area of 200 Linebrook Road — between Mile Lane and the Doyon Elementary School.
The road had to be closed because the wires were still live.
Electric crews started clearing the mess before 6 a.m. but were still on scene when families were getting ready the school over an hour later.
Police resources were stretched thin at the time because roads were slick and because and they were still dealing with a crash on Topsfield Road.
When the decision was made to close schools, some students had already arrived at the high and middle school campus.
Emails and robocalls were made to parents. While some were able to retrieve their kids, other students reportedly were left there for the day, where they watched movies.
